Essential Information for Applicants
Navigating overseas recruitment requires clarity at every stage. Below are detailed, factual answers to 24 key questions across six essential categories: applying, interviews & selection, documentation, statutory fees, candidate safety, and employer procedures.
1. Applying & Registration
How do I apply for an overseas vacancy with SkyRoute Global?
You may apply by registering your profile via our official website contact form or by visiting our office at 250/1 High Level Road, Colombo 05. Please bring your updated CV, certified vocational qualifications (NVQ), and copies of your past employer service letters.
Does applying guarantee that I will receive an overseas job?
No. In accordance with ethical recruitment practices, submitting an application or registering interest does not guarantee selection. Final hiring decisions rest entirely with overseas employers based on skills assessment and technical qualifications.
Can I apply if I do not currently have a valid passport?
You may submit your CV for preliminary assessment, but you must apply for an official Sri Lankan passport immediately. A passport with at least 2 years validity is mandatory before you can be shortlisted for employer interviews.
Is there any fee charged for submitting an initial application?
No. SkyRoute Global charges zero fees for receiving, registering, or evaluating job applications. Never pay any fee to anyone claiming to register your CV with our agency.
2. Interviews & Selection
How are candidate interviews conducted?
Interviews are conducted either via secure high-definition video conferencing directly with employer hiring teams, or in-person when overseas employer delegations visit Colombo. All interviews are coordinated at our Colombo offices.
What is involved in practical trade testing?
For technical and skilled trades (such as welders, electricians, mechanics, and equipment operators), practical trade tests are conducted at accredited technical vocational centers (e.g. NAITA or certified training facilities) to verify practical competence.
Do I need to be fluent in English for all positions?
Language requirements vary by sector. Administrative, hospitality, and supervisory roles require conversational English fluency. Skilled manual trades require basic operational English to understand workplace safety commands and technical instructions.
How will I know if I have been selected by the employer?
Selected candidates receive formal written notification from SkyRoute Global within 3 to 7 business days following interview completion. We will present your written job offer detailing wages, hours, and employment conditions.
3. Documents & Medical Clearances
What medical examinations are required for overseas work?
Selected candidates must pass comprehensive medical fitness screening at an accredited medical center (e.g. GAMCA / GCC approved centers for Gulf destinations). Tests evaluate general health, communicable diseases, vision, and occupational fitness.
Will SkyRoute Global keep my original passport?
No. We only collect original passports when required for official consular visa endorsement or final SLBFE airport clearance. Your passport remains your personal property and is returned with your stamped visa.
Do my academic and trade certificates require government attestation?
Yes. Most destination countries require certificates to be authenticated by the issuing institution, the Ministry of Education / TVEC, and attested by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Colombo.
What police clearance report is needed?
Candidates must obtain an official Police Clearance Certificate issued by the Police Headquarters in Colombo confirming a clean judicial record.
4. Fees, Payments & Transparency
What fees are candidates required to pay for overseas recruitment?
Recruitment costs are governed by Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) statutory regulations. Candidates are only responsible for statutory costs specified by law (such as mandatory medical examinations and SLBFE registration insurance). Unauthorized service commissions are strictly prohibited.
Should I ever pay cash to an agent without a receipt?
Never. Every authorized payment made at our Colombo office is acknowledged with an official, stamped corporate receipt. Never pay cash to individuals, sub-agents, or personal bank accounts.
Who pays for my overseas flight ticket?
For almost all categories and jurisdictions governed by bilateral agreements, the overseas employer provides a free, confirmed one-way economy air ticket for initial mobilization and a return ticket upon contract completion.
What happens if a candidate fails the medical examination?
If a candidate is deemed medically unfit under destination health criteria, processing halts immediately. Candidates are never charged cancellation penalties, though medical clinic fees are paid directly to the authorized clinic.
5. Candidate Safety & Rights
What protection does SLBFE registration provide?
SLBFE registration activates mandatory foreign employment insurance covering accidental injury, emergency repatriation, medical expenses abroad, and legal support through Sri Lankan diplomatic missions.
How can I verify that SkyRoute Global is a licensed agency?
You can independently verify our license by checking the licensed foreign employment agency directory on the official SLBFE website (www.slbfe.lk) using our official agency registration credentials.
What should I do if an employer alters my contract after arrival?
If terms differ from the SLBFE-endorsed contract you signed in Colombo, contact SkyRoute Global's Colombo grievance desk immediately and report the discrepancy to the Labor Welfare Officer at the nearest Sri Lankan Embassy.
Can my overseas employer confiscate my passport upon arrival?
Under international labor conventions and the domestic laws of most host nations, employers are legally prohibited from withholding personal identification documents or passports without explicit employee consent.
6. Employer Procedures
How long does mobilization take from initial demand order to deployment?
Standard mobilization requires 30 to 60 days following diplomatic attestation, depending on candidate trade testing requirements and host country visa issuance timelines.
Can employer delegations visit Colombo to conduct direct interviews?
